  • Practice practical, research-based strategies from Robert Marzano and Isabel Beck’s work on building vocabulary
  • Develop a rationale and tools necessary for choosing which words to teach and how to teach them
  • Focus on the language necessary for different academic language functions (recounting, explaining, arguing, discussing, etc.)
  • Extend students’ reading and listening comprehension as well as speaking and writing skills at the sentence and discourse dimensions in content lessons
